.farewell for now.

YOU GUYS! We fly to New York TOMORROW.  I am kiiiinda geeking out about it. Yeah, I'm such a child...I know. ;) Our bags are packed (not), the camera is charged, my tummy is ready for yummy food (always). Let's do this!

I was just wanting to pop in here and say that I'll not be posting on here until after I get back, and then I'm sure I'll bombard you all with (too many) photos from our trip. :) Until then, if you wish to stay updated and  see *some* pictures while we're away I'm sure we will be posting to our Instagrams. :)

His.

Hers.

See you all on the flip side.

.things worth celebrating.

this week I'm celebrating a new tea pot for one, a new blankie, another mug to join my collection, and giftie for my niece....just a few of my finds from this weekends city-wide garage sales. Mostly, I'm celebrating a weekend full of hunting and bargaining with my mom and sister. Definitely good times.

.calligraphy beginnings.

If you follow me on instagram, than you may already noticed my new obsession. Calligraphy.

I got this calligraphy pen earlier this week and I must say, I'm addicted. As you can see, I'm terrible, and considering I spelled Kyle's middle name "Fteven" instead of  "Steven" I think need to start from the beginning and practice my cursive.

Even though it looks like chicken scratch above, I'm pretty proud of myself! You would have to know my regular hand writing to understand. I am right handed, but I write like a left handed person. It's hard to explain without actually seeing it, but when it's all said and done my words all slant left instead of right. I've been working on correcting this for a while now because when I was a little girl I would look at my mom's handwriting in awe and think "when I get older I'm gonna have pretty handwriting like that!" and I finally realized that isn't gonna happen unless I actually try.

So, with all that said, I'm excited to be getting into calligraphy! I had no idea how in depth it all was! There's so many different styles and different holders and nibs and inks. It's fascinating. Here's a little list I found on the Internets.

A friend of mine, who is a connoisseur of fountain pens and dip pens, recommended I start out doing Spencerian script. It's swooshy and pretty, so I agreed. ;) In order to practice that script, he said I should get a flex nib rather than a stub nib. He recommended one called a Nikko G with an Oblique Holder. The Nikko G is really flexible and really cheap, aka perfect for a beginner like me.

I got my holder, a couple nibs, and ink from this website and including shipping it was less than $15. Definitely worth it, in my opinion!

My next thing is printing out some worksheets to practice my lettering! Any of you guys starting or already pros at calligraphy? Any tips/tricks I need to know?
